Without any introductions, let’s start with tips
1 – Keep it simple and less cluttered
Well you might be wondering what we meant by keeping it simple. You know, a person does not come to your website to see whether it is nice right? They come to get some information or product/service from your site right? So don`t spent too much time or money on creating fancy designs which might be in vain at the end of the day most of the time. So make the site use less fancy stuff (use things like accordions or tabs if you need to include more data in a page which are search engine friendly too) and keep the site clean and tidy. Always try to use light tone or white color as background with dark font color.
2 – Use Flat Design for user interfaces
Well most sites now a days, tends to use flat type design. It is quite a simple design and easy for the eye too. So use a good graphic designer or graphic design company to get the flat design art works or icons done.
3 – Large fonts and large photos
Sometime back we always tried to include more content with smaller fonts but now the trend is more goes to larger fonts which give s a nice look and feel as well without using fancy jquery stuff. Also use large scale photos to express what your selling or providing as a service. It‘s make site very attractive with multiple colors coming from the image/photos.
4 – Google fonts
Now it is must to use google fonts as it has much better quality and tidy look compared to Arial, Helvetica fonts we used back. Also consider loading time when choosing the font and font weights.
5 – Speed of website
If you’re targeting search engines, it is always better to optimize the site to make sure it loads faster. You can use google speed checking tool to get ideas on how you can speed up you website designed by a company or freelance web designers. If you’re using WordPress or opencart try optimizing plugins or caching plugins offered in those sites.
6 – Mobile Friendly design
Well it is another point where the site has to be mobile friendly. Because people are quiet busy and whenever they have free time they would search online using their mobile devices or tabs.
7 – Color matching
When you create the site try to color match smoothly and try to use less shiny colors to be easy for the eye. If it is an information site, try to stick to two colors, it would make it easy for the reader as well.
8 – CMS
If you can have a WordPress, or Joomla powered backend for your site, it would help you very much in adding new pages and content. If it is a static website, you will have to regularly get developers or designers support to update your website. Our recommendation is WordPress now compared to other CMS platforms as it is quiet user friendly now with large base of plugins and widgets to expand your website system or standard website.
9 – Ecommerce / Carts
If you’re planning to sell online try to either go with a solid, popular eCommerce platform like open-cart rather than create a basic web site or if you have some extra budget, you could go with php /mysql or jsp/sql system which may take some time thought.
10 – Do not use frames
Frames are flawed and they went out of style for a reason. Readers have difficulty bookmarking and scrolling websites with frames. You will learn, thanks to advancements in web design, that allowing your visitors to cruise through an easy flowing site is a simple as 1, 2, 3 and visually more attractive.
11- Separate topics
Always separate topics. Put each topic on a different page. Not only will viewers be less confused, but search engines can pick up on your site easier, which gives you a higher ranking.
12- Domain name
When selecting a domain name, it’s important that you’re creative. A big part of web design is having a site with a good, on-topic name. Having a catchy, relevant name will make people remember your website just as much as any design features would. Don’t think that a name isn’t an important feature.
13 – Learning
Do your best to stay consistent with your efforts when you are learning web design? You don’t want to learn a couple of things then come back a couple of months later and try to learn something new and already have forgotten the information that you had previously learned complicating your whole web design process.
